The Day of Atonement
On the 10th day of the 7th month, we are to afflict our souls (fast) as a memorial of the Day of Atonement (Leviticus 16, Leviticus 23:26-32).
When the sons of Aaron carried the priesthood in the Temple the high priest would go into the most holy place after making a sacrifice and put the blood on the mercy seat. Now our High Priest makes one sacrifice on a tree and atones for our sin by His own blood [Hebrews 10:1-10].
Always remember, the appointed times that Yah gave our ancestors are ALL a shadow of Yahushua (Jesus) [Colossians 2:17]. This is why the Messiah died on Passover, was in the grave during the week of Unleavened Bread and three days after His death He rose according to the First Fruit Sheaf Waving. Then seven weeks later He gave the promise of the Spirit to the apostles on Pentecost. This is always an interesting study when we meet each year to see how this day and its rite’s testify of the Messiah and the implications of His coming.
