Peace in Yahushua! This page draws from Scripture to illuminate prayer as a vital act of faith and obedience, leading to salvation. As explored in lessons from the Messiah (e.g., Matthew 6 principles), prayer isn’t about ritual but honest and vulnerable communication with Yah. Use this to deepen your walk.
EXAMPLE PRAYER STRUCTURE
Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
MATTHEW 6:9-13
IDENTIFY THE MOST HIGH
Speak directly to YAHUAH by making it clear that you are addressing Him
Set Him apart with scriptural titles and attributes (e.g., “Our Father which art in heaven.”).
GLORIFY HIM AND PRAISE HIM
Lift Him high by recognizing His love, power, and might
Praise His works, exalt Him, submit to His will (e.g., “Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.”).
CONFESS SINS
Humble yourself, acknowledging your shortcomings
Acknowledge personal sins in confession to Yahuah. You may also recognize the sins of your ancestors. Acknowledgement of sins does not need to be specific; it can also be a general acknowledgement (e.g., “And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.”).
MAKE YOUR REQUEST
Ask God for yourself and/or others
Present your needs and intercede for others—standing in the gap as a disciple. Be specific, faithful, and aligned with Scripture, trusting Yah’s timing and wisdom for answers that lead to salvation (e.g., “And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil”).
PRINCIPLES OF PRAYER
Faith is the foundation of effective prayer, requiring belief that YAHUAH will respond according to His will, while complementing it with righteous actions rather than using it as an excuse for inaction. Persistence demonstrates unwavering trust, approaching YAHUAH boldly and repeatedly even if answers are delayed. Bible References:
- Prayer doesn’t replace action: James 2:14-17 (KJV: “What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him? If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit? Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.”)
- Persistence (be annoying): Luke 11:5-10 (KJV: “And he said unto them, Which of you shall have a friend, and shall go unto him at midnight, and say unto him, Friend, lend me three loaves; For a friend of mine in his journey is come to me, and I have nothing to set before him? And he from within shall answer and say, Trouble me not: the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot rise and give thee. I say unto you, Though he will not rise and give him, because he is his friend, yet because of his importunity he will rise and give him as many as he needeth. And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.”)
- Believe: Matthew 21:18-22 (KJV: “Now in the morning as he returned into the city, he hungered. And when he saw a fig tree in the way, he came to it, and found nothing thereon, but leaves only, and said unto it, Let no fruit grow on thee henceforward for ever. And presently the fig tree withered away. And when the disciples saw it, they marvelled, saying, How soon is the fig tree withered away! Yahushua answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do this which is done to the fig tree, but also if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done. And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.”)
Approach YAHUAH with a humble heart, openly admitting weaknesses and sins without pretense, as pride blocks His grace and hinders answered prayers. Transparency fosters genuine connection, allowing the Spirit to work through vulnerability. Bible References:
- James 4:6-10 (KJV: “But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, YAHUAH resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble. Submit yourselves therefore to YAHUAH. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw nigh to YAHUAH, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness. Humble yourselves in the sight of YAHUAH, and he shall lift you up.”)
- Psalm 51:17 (KJV: “The sacrifices of YAHUAH are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O YAHUAH, thou wilt not despise.”)
Prayer is not a magical formula to manipulate outcomes but must be rooted in YAHUAH’s sovereignty and Scripture, rejecting reliance on luck or mystical practices. This keeps faith pure, focused on YAHUAH alone rather than external forces.
Bible References:
Deuteronomy 18:10-12 (KJV: “There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch. Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. For all that do these things are an abomination unto YAHUAH: and because of these abominations YAHUAH thy YAHUAH doth drive them out from before thee.”)
Isaiah 8:19 (KJV: “And when they shall say unto you, Seek unto them that have familiar spirits, and unto wizards that peep, and that mutter: should not a people seek unto their YAHUAH? for the living to the dead?”)
Pray privately to maintain sincerity, avoiding public displays that seek human approval rather than YAHUAH’s ear. True prayer is intimate, focused on communion with YAHUAH, not performance.
Matthew 6:5-6 (KJV: “And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.”)
Avoid empty, repetitive words or mindless chants that lack heart, as YAHUAH rejects insincere speech. Prayer should be thoughtful, expressing genuine needs and praise.
Matthew 6:7-8 (KJV: “But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.”)
When words fail, the Holy Spirit intercedes with groanings aligned with YAHUAH’s will, allowing silent or emotional prayer. YAHUAH hears the heart’s intent beyond verbal expression.
Romans 8:26-27 (KJV: “Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of YAHUAH.”)
PRAYER ENHANCERS
FASTING
Fasting humbles the body and sharpens spiritual focus, amplifying prayer by demonstrating dependence on YAHUAH over physical needs. It often leads to breakthroughs in repentance and guidance when done with true heart change.
Bible References:
Isaiah 58:3-7 (KJV: “Wherefore have we fasted, say they, and thou seest not? wherefore have we afflicted our soul, and thou takest no knowledge? Behold, in the day of your fast ye find pleasure, and exact all your labours. Behold, ye fast for strife and debate, and to smite with the fist of wickedness: ye shall not fast as ye do this day, to make your voice to be heard on high. Is it such a fast that I have chosen? a day for a man to afflict his soul? is it to bow down his head as a bulrush, and to spread sackcloth and ashes under him? wilt thou call this a fast, and an acceptable day to YAHUAH? Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke? Is it not to deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou hide not thyself from thine own flesh?”).
Matthew 6:16-18 (KJV: “Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face; That thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret: and thy Father, which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly.”).
LAYING ON OF HANDS
This physical act symbolizes transferring blessing, healing, or authority during prayer, invoking YAHUAH’s power through community touch. It fosters unity when done with faith and purity, avoiding empty gestures.
Bible References:
Acts 8:17-19 (KJV: “Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost. And when Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles’ hands the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them money, Saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay hands, he may receive the Holy Ghost.”).
Mark 16:17-18 (KJV: “And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.”).
