Summary
Why did Israel keep asking for a king when Yahuah was already their King? In this Sabbath lesson from Psalm 51, Ezekiel 9 and Matthew 7, we learn to examine ourselves before we try to correct others, because judgment begins with those who sit closest to God’s sanctuary. Through Gideon and Abimelech in Judges 8 and 9 and the manner of the king in 1 Samuel 8, you’ll see that the desire for a king was in Israel’s heart long before Saul. Finally, Saul’s sacrifice in 1 Samuel 13 and 15, the house of Eli in 1 Samuel 2, and the rescue of Jabesh in 1 Samuel 11 show that to obey is better than sacrifice, and that small acts of disobedience carry a heavy cost.
