Summary
Why did Jacob tell Reuben, unstable as water, thou shalt not excel? In this Sabbath lesson from 2 Peter 2, Matthew 13 and Proverbs 16, we learn that Yahuah knows how to deliver the godly and will separate the wheat from the tares in His time, even when our own ways look clean in our eyes. Through Deuteronomy 29, 1 Timothy 6 and Psalm 49, you’ll see that godliness with contentment is great gain, while Jacob’s return to Bethel shows how remembering what God has done keeps us steady, and Joseph in Genesis 39 shows a standard that doesn’t move. Finally, Psalm 37, 1 Kings 3, James 1 and Genesis 49 and 34 warn that a double-minded person who keeps redrawing the line is unstable in all his ways, so we have to keep God’s standard no matter how we feel.
